Tigers taking on the Rams to finish 19-6a competition

The regular season concludes with the Tigers taking on the Rams to finish 19-6A competition before entering the playoffs as the district's top seed.

The regular season concludes with the Tigers taking on the Rams to finish 19-6A competition. Katy is still waiting to know who it will face in bi-district to begin the state playoffs. Mayde Creek hit the five win mark for just the second time since 2010 when the Rams beat Seven Lakes (44-14) last week. While they will miss out on the playoffs, they’ve established a foundation for 2025.

Talent wise, Mayde Creek has relied mostly on their defense to win games. They are athletic across the board and look more like Mayde Creek teams did back in my time. They are similar to Jordan and Paetow physically, but obviously not quite as good as those two as evidenced by their head to head results.

What to expect

I expect they will give Katy a good look in terms of how aggressive they’ll be and challenge the Tigers’ ability to identify and pick up the free man without allowing them to blow up the play. I watched their game against Seven Lakes back in detail, and the talent gap between the Rams and Spartans became quite apparent as the game progressed.

On offense, Mayde Creek has some quick skill players at the running back and receiver positions. The quarterback will take shots down field and puts a lot of air under the ball. He makes rainmaker passes in the deep game that hang up a while and can be difficult to make a play on for defenders.

I think this game will be a good conclusion to what has been a great regular season for Katy in terms of playoff preparation. The non-district and district opponents have prepared the Tigers very well for what they’ll encounter in the playoffs, particularly from the second round on.

While bi-district needs sorting out, the playoff run lines up as follows from the second round: Cy Falls, North Shore, Atascocita, Westlake, Duncanville. I feel like those names speak for themselves. We go one week at a time from here until however long it lasts this season. Mayde Creek is the last chance to fine tune before prime time. Here we go.
